FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is LineLayer a caller ID or spam-identification app?

No. LineLayer doesn't identify who an unknown caller is, and it doesn't use a crowdsourced database to label numbers as spam. It filters calls based on rules you set — like blocking private callers or numbers outside your contacts — not by looking numbers up.

What happens to calls from numbers that aren't in my contacts?

That depends on the rules you configure. You can choose to block non-contact numbers, allow them, or make exceptions using allow lists and Expected Call Mode for a call you're waiting on.

What is Expected Call Mode?

A way to temporarily relax your relevant filtering rules while you're waiting for a legitimate call from a number you don't recognize, such as a callback from a clinic or delivery driver. Your normal rules apply again once it's off.

Does LineLayer block private or hidden callers?

You can set a rule to block calls that arrive without caller ID, commonly shown as "Private," "Restricted," or "Unknown."

Can I make sure specific numbers always get through?

Yes. Numbers on your allow list are let through regardless of your other filtering rules.

Can I see why a call was blocked?

Yes. LineLayer's call history shows the reason a call was allowed or blocked, based on the rule that applied.

Does LineLayer process calls on a remote server?

LineLayer's call filtering is designed around local processing on your device, evaluated against the rules you set, rather than depending on a large shared database of phone numbers.

Where can I get LineLayer?

LineLayer is available for Android on Google Play.
